Ryun, Jordan raise more money than Boyda, Moore in last period
An article in The Hill this week reported that Republican U.S. House candidates Jim Ryun and Nick Jordan raised more money in the last three and a half months than their primary opponents Lynn Jenkins and Paul Showen and than their potential Democratic opponents, incumbents Nancy Boyda and Dennis Moore.
But Boyda and Moore still maintain advantages in cash on hand.
In the race for the Second Congressional district, which includes west Lawrence, Ryun raised $450,000 compared to Boyda's $240,000. Ryun's primary opponent state treasurer Lynn Jenkins raised $130,000, but she leads Ryun in cash on hand, $490,000 to $220,000, according to the story.
Boyda has benefited from waiting for Ryun and Jenkins to slug it out in the primary, as she has $890,000 in the bank.
In the race for the third district, which includes eastern Lawrence, Eudora and Wyandotte and Johnson counties, Jordan appears to have raked in money from his recent fundraiser with President Bush. During the period, Jordan raised $480,000 compared to Moore's $340,000. Moore still has $1.1 million on hand compared to Jordan's $620,000.
Jordan faces Shawnee resident Showen in the Aug. 5 primary.
In the Kansas race for the U.S. Senate, incumbent Sen. Pat Roberts and potential Democratic nominee Jim Slattery continue to spar over television advertising. Slattery has called a press conference at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday to talk about the ads at his campaign headquarters, 2420 SW 17th St., in Topeka.
Slattery faces Lee Jones in the primary.

Of course, Ryun raised more money. He resides in Tom Delay's pocket.
It would be interesting to see just where that money comes from that goes into Ryun's campaign. Bet some comes from the “collection plate”.
