City answers call for pothole relief on Bardith Court
Good news arrived this morning for the folks on Bardith Court.A city maintenance crew showed up with equipment, asphalt patching material and a can-do attitude for addressing the source of resident Max Lucas’ frustration for the past three years: a growing lineup of potholes.Lucas, who built his home in 1969, had called the city this week to report 14 potholes on the court, a concrete cul-de-sac serving six homes northwest of 27th Street and Alabama streets.Lucas called after seeing a story that had appeared in the Journal-World this week, regarding the city’s road-maintenance efforts. The story included information about the city’s Pothole Hotline, 832-3456. (You also may report potholes online, using a form available by clicking here.)Sure enough, the crew showed up Friday morning, assessed the conditions and got to work patching the holes — one of which, Lucas said, had stretched to 14 or 15 feet across.Lucas, an engineer, knows the repairs won’t hold for long. Folks on the repair crew conceded as much, too.But the longtime resident and taxpayer is appreciative of the effort, which he’s certain will make things better for the coming months. And he’s looking forward to this spring, when he’s told workers will be back to make more substantive repairs — this time using concrete.
