Wagle considering state Senate president run

State Sen. Susan Wagle, R-Wichita, and one of the leading conservatives in the Kansas Legislature, has said she is considering a run against the current president of the state senate, Steve Morris, R-Hugoton.Morris won the race for president in 2004 by a 17-13 margin among Senate Republicans. Since then, conservatives have been displeased with several of Morris’ positions. This week’s election results increased the number of conservatives in the Senate. Wagle made headlines in Lawrence and nationally in 2003 when she took the Senate floor to denounce a human sexuality course taught at Kansas University by Dennis Dailey. Dailey denied there was anything wrong with the course, and KU officials said Wagle’s allegations did not have merit. During the controversy, Wagle sought to cut funding to the KU School of Social Welfare, a move that was eventually vetoed by Gov. Kathleen Sebelius.
