Local attorneys apply for judgeshipSuzanne Carey McAllister of Lawrence, and Terri Bezek of Baldwin City are among 14 people who have applied for the newly created 13th position on the Kansas Court of Appeals.A nominating commission will review the applications and conduct interviews Nov. 12-13, and then submit the names of three persons to Gov. Kathleen Sebelius, who will make an appointment from that list.Third party politics featuredTwo events focusing on third party politics will be offered Thursday, Oct. 25 at the Dole Institute of Politics at Kansas University.Several academic experts will discuss third party politics starting at 3 p.m. in the Simons media room. Among the panelists will be Lisa Disch, political science professor at the University of Minnesota, and author of “The Tyranny of the Two-Party System.” At 7:30 p.m. in Hansen Hall, a roundtable discussion moderated by Bill Kurtis will include Libertarian Party activists and focus on third party ballot access.
