Sebelius to sign gambling bill on Wednesday
Topeka Gov. Kathleen Sebelius will travel across Kansas on Wednesday in ceremonial bill signings of the new casino gambling legislation. The tour will hit areas that under the bill could add state-owned casinos and resorts, and video slot machines at pari-mutuel tracks.Sebelius will hold ceremonies at Mid-Continent Aiport in Wichita, the Dodge City Regional Airport, The Woodlands horse and dog track in Kansas City, Kan., and the Cherokee County Courthouse in Columbus.Sebelius said the bill, which was recently approved by the Legislature, would allow a “responsible expansion” of gambling by requiring local voter approval in the affected areas before a casino could be developed or slots added to the tracks. “The people of Kansas will finally have a chance to decide for themselves whether to allow expanded gaming,” Sebelius said.
