i heart local music Stop Day Eve Party

Psychic Heat. Middle Twin. Forrester. This lineup is pretty damn great. If you’ve been to any of the three bands’ shows, you know that they get you on your feet every time and moving in ways you just didn’t plan on (in a great way).

Psychic Heat has definitely gotten the most attention in Lawrence lately, recently winning the grand prize at Farmers’ Ball and rocking the house onstage as if they were having enjoyable music-inspired panic attacks…I don’t know if that’s a thing but all the flailing around makes it come off that way.

Middle Twin has made quite a splash on the electronic pop dance music scene, with some seriously talented musicians (and producer) in the band, contributing to the beautifully arranged seven-track EP “City of Gold” released earlier this year.

Forrester put out its debut EP release this year with the winnings from last year’s Farmers’ Ball called “Antithesis.” Like I said, damn great lineup. You’re done with classes so live it up.
Thursday at Jackpot, 943 Massachusetts St., 10 p.m., $3.

Atomic Prom

STOP DAY FESTIVITIES CONTINUE. Instructions pulled from the Facebook invite suggest that this is important: “the theme is atomic, so bust out your best vintage/retro/space race duds and come dance your face off.” I imagine it’s a figurative second request, but there’s no telling with the amazing local bands shredding it in Lawrence these days.

For a mere $3, you get to see doo-wop group Dean Monkey & The Dropouts, The Natural Highlights (members of Psychic Heat are in this rather new Motown cover band), and Nark & the Larks (members of Narkalark with Eric McGrane on guitar and Emily Scholle on vocals). If that’s not your thing, DJ Modrey Hepburn and Jon Harrison will be on the patio laying it down for you.
Friday at Replay Lounge, 946 Massachusetts St., 10 p.m., $3.

Lawrence Parks Tour Stop

An informal, outdoor gathering of musicians and those who love spring and music? No reason not to partake. Waddle on down there on your way to or from the Food Truck Festival. Lineup includes No Magic, Salvador Francisco, Invisible Public Library, and Ovaries-Eez.
Saturday, at Buford M Watson Jr Park (train park), at 5 p.m. FREE.

Christina Perri

Birdy opening up the night, Christina Perri is bringing her new album “Head or Heart” to the Granada on Saturday, for what I’m pretty sure I was told is a sold-out show.

Her new single “Human” has been taking over the radio station airplay for a while now, so I can’t say I’m too surprised. In case you need a refresher, Perri was 23 when she moved to Los Angeles in hopes of getting signed. A few disappointments later, her piano ballad “Jar of Hearts” made it on an episode of “So You Think You Can Dance” and the single took off, making it to the top of Billboard Top 40 charts in a short two weeks, with more than 100,000 downloads. Her tour is a mix of hits off the latest album — she has a duet on the album with Ed Sheeran called “Be My Forever” — and covers. Looks like those lucky to get tickets early will have to keep us posted.
Saturday at Granada, 1020 Massachusetts St., 8 p.m., $22-$24.
