Wayne Coyne is headed back to Lawrence this Sunday, Dec. 22, at 5 p.m. The Love Garden in one of five stops on this week’s Record Store Tour. The Flaming Lips frontman came to town in 2011, handing out gummy baby fetuses containing flash drives of new Lips’ songs.

This year he’s coming to do a signing and sell limited-edition reissues of two of the Lips’ earliest releases. The Flaming Lips first EP comes encased in a custom-designed “anatomically correct” solid chocolate skull, according to the press release. If you can manage to eat through what sounds like a great deal of chocolate, you’ll find the 12-inch green vinyl signed by Coyne, a record that has not been available since 1986.

Coyne will also be selling the group’s second cassette demo, the release pressed on blue 7-inch vinyl.

Merry early Christmas to us.

Why does he keep dropping musical gems in Lawrence? He explained it best the last time he was here: “If you live close to me, you get cooler shit than people who live further away.”

We’ll take it.
