Infamous Stringdusters
The five-piece bluegrass band originally based out of Nashville will be performing at Liberty Hall and raising awareness for the devastating Colorado floods from September. Their recently released EP “Road to Boulder” garnered some attention and money toward the relief fund, and $1 of each ticket sold on tour will contribute to the cause. Prepare for a high-energy, all around positive experience. No broody indie music for these boys, says bass player Travis Book. Keep an eye out that night for a pre-show gathering. No venue has been confirmed but it’s a tour tradition to meet with fans and socialize before each show.
Friday, Dec. 6, at Liberty Hall, 644 Massachusetts St., 8 p.m. $20.
Vienna Teng
Cynthia Yih Shih, aka Vienna Teng, is a pianist and songwriter who incorporates pop, folk, classical piano and a capella elements in her music. She has release five studio albums, the latest from this year, “Aims,” described by Huffington Post as emotional, innovative, euphoric and intelligent work. Born to Taiwanese parents, she decided on her stage name at the age of 12, Vienna from the capital of Austria, and Teng from late Taiwanese pop singer Teresa Teng. Her music influences? Simon & Garfunkel, James Taylor, Mozart and Beethoven and Dvo?ák, 60s Mandarin pop, Elton John, Billy Joel, Tori Amos and Fiona Apple.
Friday, Dec. 6, at the Lawrence Arts Center, 940 New Hampshire St., 8 p.m. $17.50.
Drake [KANSAS CITY PICK]
If you’re not yet obsessed with latest album, “Nothing Was the Same,” you need to be. Multi-platinum-selling artist Drake, joined by R&B artist Miguel and Future, will perform at the Sprint Center this weekend, bringing his perfectly melancholy and emotion-filled tracks to life before your lucky eyes (whatever, I’m a fan). This album is his third consecutive release to hit the No. 1 album charts, one of the strongest hip hop albums of the year. Maybe he’ll invite you onstage and run his hands through your hair (never wash it), as he reportedly did this at a tour concert in Arizona. Also keep in mind, he is one of the very best things to come out of Canada.
Saturday, Dec. 7, at Sprint Center, 1407 Grand Blvd., 7 p.m., $29.50-$99.75.
Lisa Donnelly at Hemi Jam
A night dedicated to raising funds for the Hemispherectomy Foundation, and children who go through radical brain surgery, Lawrence native Lisa Donnelly is returning to town for this special concert. Her song “Here to Stay” was written specifically for the nationally televised event: “The Bachelorette: JP and Ashley’s wedding,” aired in December of last year. Donnelly’s music tends to capture life’s radiant moments, embracing existence, with electronic and instrumental layered throughout. Unlike most concerts at the Granada, the venue will be filled with tables and chairs that are nicely displayed for attendees, and will feature live and silent auctions.
Saturday, Dec. 7, at Granada, 1020 Massachusetts St., 7 p.m., $10.
Chanel West Coast
According to Chanel herself, she’s been keeping it real since ’88. That’s a lot of real right from birth. Based in Los Angeles, Chanel Dudley is a rapper/singer, recently signed by Lil Wayne (Young Money). Her debut mixtape, “Now You Know” dropped in July of this year, featuring appearances from Honey Cocaine, Snoop Dogg, Robin Thicke, and French Montana. Besides rapping, Chanel models, acts, and is probably best known as a main cast member on Rob Dyrdek’s “Fantasy Factory.”
Monday, Dec. 9, at the Bottleneck, 737 New Hampshire St., 7p.m., $11-$13.
