What cutbacks have you made that saved you the most money?
In the November issue of Real Simple magazine, the following question was asked: What cutback has saved you the most money and changed your life the least?
Readers answered with the likes of no longer getting cable (don’t think my family would appreciate that one), giving up a gym membership, taking public transportation. One reader said he started brewing his own tea instead of purchasing it at a local coffee shop. Also listed was not eating at restaurants so often and another said she stopped getting professional manicures.
This got me thinking as to what my husband and I have cut back on to save money yet didn’t have as big an impact on our lives as we thought. This is what we came up with:
* Gave up our XM satellite radio.
* Did not renew several magazine subscriptions.
* I found a quality hair stylist who did not charge me a small fortune for a haircut.
* We also cut back on eating out at restaurants.
* Our youngest son no longer plays travel hockey; instead he is playing on a local high school team. This is also saving us in gas money.
* We’ve also been trying more store brand items.
So, what cutbacks have you made to save money? And have those cutbacks affected the quality of your life or was it easier than you thought?
