OMG! BRB, GOT 2 TXT!
Today, Nielsen Mobile released a “media blast,” as they like to call it, on cell phone usage and – surprise! – more people are texting then talking on the phone. The average user sends 357 texts a month, compared to making 204 callsAnd – another shocker here – teens are really helping bump up that number. Kids between the ages of 13 and 17 sent almost 1800 texts and just 231 phone calls per month each. But it’s not just the teenagers letting their fingers do the talking. (Although, they are definitely doing their part. I especially like the line that says 47 percent of teens say if they didn’t have texting, their social lifewould be worse off.) Cell phone users in their mid 30s and 40s sent 236 text messages and made 223 phone calls. Alas, those 65 and over still like it old school — 99 calls versus 14 texts. They’re not like this little lady: My mom finally caved and got the family unlimited texting and now does it herself. She finds it’s a much better way to contact her kids (i.e., me and my 18-year-old brother), especially because she knows while we might not answer our phones, we sure will text her back. What about your kids? Or you? Are you texting more often than not? I know I caved.L8R.
