Even struggling Texas too much for Kansas?

As we enter the home stretch to the 2015 college football season, things aren’t looking much brighter for Kansas. But the Jayhawks are facing a Texas team that got blanked, 24-0, last week at Iowa State.

Does that mean winless KU (0-8 overall, 0-5 Big 12) has a chance for the upset Saturday night in Austin, Texas, versus the Longhorns (3-5, 2-3)? Not according to our pickers.

What do you think? Is Texas in shambles? Might Kansas hang around — or even shock the Big 12 with a road win? Let us know in the comments section below.

QUESTION OF THE WEEK

The Kansas City Royals won the World Series after a 30-year drought and a span of seriously lean years. Which sports franchise or college sports program that has existed in mediocrity will next rise to glory?

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 42-12

Kansas foot … wait, I have to stop
laughing before I finish this …
ball.

Last week: 4-2 | Season: 40-14

I believe with all my heart that
Sheffield Wednesday will get back to
the Premier League by 2017 and will
win it all by 2020. New owner Dejphon
Chansiri means business. He has a
little George Steinbrenner in him.

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 40-14

The sports franchise that has existed
in mediocrity that is ready to rise,
no doubt, is the Cubs. I know they had
a good year this year, but all the
experts are saying the Cubs are going
to be for real for a long time to
come. I wish I could say the same of
the White Sox, who appear to be in
decline.

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 40-14

I’ll go with the Chicago Cubs. The
Cubs weren’t mediocre last year –
posting a 97-65 record and advancing
to the NLCS – but they haven’t been to
the World Series since 1945 and
haven’t won it all since 1908. The
Cubs have a ridiculously young
offensive core in first baseman
Anthony Rizzo (26), middle infielders
Javier Baez and Addison Russell (22
and 21, respectively), third baseman
Kris Bryant (23), and outfielders
Jorge Soler and Kyle Schwarber (23 and
22, respectively). Throw in 22-game
winner Jake Arrieta and veteran
starting pitcher Jon Lester, and
that’s why Bovada has the Cubs as the
odds-on favorites to win it all next
year at 10:1. The Royals are tied for
second at 12:1, so I’d love to see
them square off against the Cubs in
the World Series next year in a
matchup of my two favorite teams.

Last week: 4-2 | 39-15

Kansas football, if getting to six
wins and a bowl game by 2017 counts as
glory. Has to happen. Membership in a
power 5 conference may depend on it.

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 38-16

Kansas football.

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 38-16

Isn’t it time for the Washington
Generals to make a title run instead
of just getting pounded game after
game, week after week, by the Harlem
Globetrotters?

Last week: 5-1 | Season: 37-17

The Cubs. I really (tee hee) think
next year (ha ha ha) is the Cubs’ year
(titter, chortle) to break all the
various and sundry curses (harharhar)
that have plagued them (yuk yuk) and
win it all (bwahahahaha). Really.

Last week: 4-2 | Season: 34-20

Behind the sensational Spaniard Ricky
Rubio, the Minnesota Timberwolves
advance to the Western Conference
Finals this season.

Last week: 4-2 | Season: 31-23

The L.A. Clippers were an absolute
joke for years and years, and they
still never have made it to a
conference final. But I wouldn’t be
surprised if Chris Paul, Blake Griffin
and company get all the way to the NBA
Finals next June. (Disclaimer: I also
wouldn’t be surprised if they lose
next April in the first round to San
Antonio/Oklahoma City/Houston. The
West is brutal, man. Avoid that
4th/5th seed like the plague.)
