Is the Big 12 in for another significant upset this weekend?
Last week TCU threw a wrench in Oklahoma’s plans to march through the Big 12 unscathed, and made the race for the top of the conference standings a little more interesting.
Will any team pull off a similar — or larger — upset on Saturday? Could it possibly be Kansas, against Oklahoma State?
Our Lawrence Journal-World staffers aim to answer those questions with this week’s picks.

Answer: With the MLB postseason, college football and the NFL getting into the meat of their schedules and the MLS regular season winding down, the whole month of October is hard to beat. I’m going to go with late March/early April, though. The NCAA basketball tournament has always been my favorite event in all of sports. The MLB and MLS are also just getting started around that time of year, the NBA regular season nears an end and The Masters is also usually played in that timeframe as well. As a former long distance runner, late March/early April also meant the beginning of outdoor track, so that was exciting.

But it continues into April and beyond, with the NBA season in its final weeks, and the NBA Playoffs following shortly after. The best basketball players on the planet, competing at the highest level? Yeah, sign me up for that, too.

Answer: I’m a huge NFL fan, because of John Elway, Peyton Manning and hundreds of other current and former Denver Broncos, so I’ll have to go with January… Playoff football, which, in Denver, is known as the road to the Super Bowl, plus the best college bowl games and the start of conference play in college basketball. Awesome time! Something great to watch/attend/cover almost every night of the week.
