Operation 100 News report

Firefighters from several county townships responded on a reported structure fire about a mile west of Lawrence early Friday.

The call was dispatched at 12:17 a.m. following a report of a garage fire at 1652 E 800 Road in Kanwaka Township.

A deputy arrived on the scene, about three minutes after being dispatched, to report visible flames from the garage. The deputy found that all of the residents at the address had evacuated and were standing in the front yard. Residents told the deputy that there is a vehicle, ammunition, gunpowder and fireworks inside the garage.

Fire crews began to arrive, about seven minutes after being dispatched, and confirmed there was a working garage fire. Crews reported that the garage is only a few feet from the side of the home and worked to keep the fire from spreading.

A county-wide tender (water tanker) alert was issued to assist with supplying water to extinguish the fire.

Firefighters were able to bring the fire under control in about 30 minutes. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
