Power restored after more than two hour outage in eastern Lawrence

Westar Energy outage map as of 4 a.m..

Power was restored to all customers around 6 a.m. Sunday.

Around 4 a.m., Westar Energy was showing just over 900 customers without electricity this morning in Lawrence.

The outage came about twenty minutes after a Lawrence police officer reported hearing a small explosion and seeing something on fire in the area of the former Farmland Industries fertilizer plant, located along Kansas Highway 10. Firefighters responded to the area and did not locate anything in the area.

It is unclear if the reported fire is related to the outage or not.

Police reported a large area of the city’s east side is without power.

Westar’s website says that the outages should be restored by 7:30 a.m..
