Update: Saturday morning accident killed one, injured another on the turnpike

The Kansas Highway Patrol is investigating following an early morning accident that took the life of one person and injured several others in Leavenworth County.

The accident was reported shortly before 2:10 Saturday morning in the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70 near mile marker 221.3.

Turnpike Troopers arrived to find a three vehicle accident with one vehicle being heavily damaged. A passenger in that car was found unconscious and pinned inside.

Leavenworth County fire personnel performed CPR on the person following a brief extrication. That person was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.

A second person, said to be the driver of the heavily damaged vehicle, was transported to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas. Her injuries were said to be serious but not immediately life threatening.

Troopers have not released any other information at this time.
