Four accidents kept first responders busy, LifeStar transported two injured people

Hit-and-run seriously injures bicyclist; LifeStar transports
Lawrence Police are investigating after a bicyclist was struck by a sport utility vehicle late Friday.
The accident was reported around 11:40 p.m., near the intersection of 15th Street and Massachusetts Street.
Police say a dark colored SUV, possibly a Chevrolet Suburban, struck the bicyclist and then continued westbound on 15th Street.
Medics reported the bicyclist’s injuries to be serious and requested a LifeStar Helicopter for transport.
The helicopter will landed on the football field on the east side of Liberty Memorial Central Middle School, 1400 Massachusetts Street, and transported the injured person to Stormont-Vail in Topeka.
No other details were immediately available.
One serious injury reported in rollover accident
Lawrence Police and Fire Medical crews were called to the intersection of Iowa Street and Terrace Road, shortly after 1 a.m. on report of an overturned vehicle. Terrace Road is in the 1300 block of Iowa Street.
Police arrived to find a vehicle had left the roadway, gone over a barrier and landed on its side near a wooded area. Two people in the vehicle were injured. The driver and another occupant were seen running into the wooded area after the crash.
Medics reported one serious injury and one minor injury. LifeStar was requested to be standing by on the ground in case they were needed. After about 10 minutes, LifeStar was told to disregard and the injured person was transported by ambulance.
Police set up a perimeter and quickly located one of the occupants that fled. It was not clear if that person was the driver or a passenger.
There was no information regarding the second person that was seen running from the scene.
Truck vs utility pole accident near Baldwin City; LifeStar transports one
Douglas County Deputies were called to an address in the 500 block of E 1700 Road, north of Baldwin City, around 5 a.m. on reports of a possible non-injury accident involving a truck crashed into a pole.
Deputies arrived to find the driver of the truck standing outside of his truck and power lines down on top of the truck. Medics and Baldwin City Fire crews were dispatched for the man who reported chest pains.
Medics arrived to report the truck had sustained moderate damage and had power lines down on top of it. The transformer from the utility pole was also down and reportedly landed in the bed of the pickup truck.
The driver’s condition was said to be critical, for chest and back pain. Around 5:25 a.m., medics requested that LifeStar helicopter respond to the Vinland Airport to pick up the patient.
LifeStar transported the man to the University of Kansas Hospital in Kansas City, Kansas.
Kansas City Power and Light was requested to respond to make repairs to the pole. At 5:45 a.m. KCP&L reported approximately 276 customers were without power in zip code 66006, which covers Baldwin City.
Other early morning activity
– Douglas County Deputies stopped a vehicle that was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of Kansas Highway 10 shortly before 2 a.m.. That driver eventually stopped near mile post 8.5.
– Lawrence Police and Fire Medical crews were called to a minor injury accident on 9th Street near Highland Drive around 2:40 a.m.. The driver struck a utility pole.
