Still more than 500 without power in south central Lawrence

5 a.m. update – Westar Energy now shows approximately 542 customers without power.

4 a.m. update –Lawrence Police report that the vehicle was abandoned when they arrived. The driver is possibly injured from the collision with the utility pole.

Westar is still working to restore the rest of the outages.

3 a.m. report – Westar Energy is reporting approximately 3,140 customers in Douglas County are without power currently.

Lawrence Fire was called to investigate a power outage around 2:45 Friday morning. That crew found a large area of Lawrence was without power.

Emergency Dispatchers contacted Westar Energy who reported that they were aware of the issue and had a technician responding to troubleshoot the problem.

Firefighters report the outage to be primarily from at least Naismith Drive, west to Iowa Street and between 20th and 31st Streets.

At 3 a.m., Lawrence Fire was dispatched to assist police on the scene of a car versus utility pole accident in the 1300 block of W. 24th Street, just across from the Campus Court apartments. Police report that there is a power line down across 24th Street. No injuries have been reported at that scene.

There was no word on when the outage will be repaired.
