Local filmmakers’ script a Beverly Hills Film Festival official selection

The script for the locally penned fantasy flick “From Ashes to Immortality” is now an official selection of the Beverly Hills Film Festival.

Co-written by Lawrence residents Eric Hyde, Jazzmyne Matchette, George Dean and Mike Anderson, the “From Ashes to Immortality” tells “the tale of a reckless explorer who embarks on an unexpected journey,” in the words of Hyde, who is also directing.

The locally shot film — which stars Channel 6’s “Not So Late Show” host Mike Anderson, filmmaker/actor Blake Robbins (“The Sublime and the Beautiful”) and Wes Studi of “Dances With Wolves” and “Avatar” — is only partially finished, and still in need of funding.

Hyde, whose script for “Take Gentle Care” has also been selected, is hoping the potential exposure of the Beverly Hills Film Festival (slated for early April) will help raise awareness.

In the meantime, check out the “From Ashes to Immortality” Indiegogo page. Or, try to spot familiar Lawrence locales (the Kansas University campus makes an appearance early on, as does KU film professor and “Chi-Raq” scribe Kevin Willmott) in the teaser here:
