Spec. Camy Florexil, 20, who was listed as living on School House Lane, died July 24 from wounds he had suffered a day earlier when the bomb exploded near his vehicle during combat operations in the war-ravaged Iraq capital. Florexil was based in Fort Riley, Kansas. He was an infantryman assigned to 1st Battalion, 28th Infantry Regiment, 4th Infantry Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division. Military records showed that Florexil joined the Army in September 2005 and began serving with the 1st Infantry Division in February 2006. This had been his first deployment to Iraq.Kansas National Guard[(AP) Kansas Guardsman killed in Iraq:][2] A 30-year-old Kansas National Guard member was killed in Iraq by an improvised explosive device. The guardsman was Staff Sgt. Travis S. Bachman, who was killed Wednesday. He was stationed in northern Iraq, the Guard said. Bachman, from Garden City, was deployed with the 714th Security Forces. He enlisted in the Guard in 1993 while still in high school. “My sincere condolences go out to Travis’ family and friends,” said Maj. Gen. Tod Bunting, the state adjutant. “He was a man who loved his country and loved being a guardsman. He will be missed and remembered.” Bachman is ninth Kansas guardsman to die in a war zone — eight in Iraq and one in Afghanistan — since 2004, when the first two died in Iraq. Guard spokeswoman Sharon Watson said about 800 Guard troops are in Iraq and 100 are in Afghanistan. The Kansas Guard has 7,600 members. Bachman and his wife, Amber, had three children.
