Another chance of snow looming this weekend

A strong cold front is forming in the Northern Rockies and will rush southeast into the area by late Friday. This will bring much colder weather and a chance for accumulating snow to Northeast Kansas by Friday night into early Saturday.

Every snow is difficult to project amounts, but what makes this one a bit more difficult is that the ground will be fairly warm from mild weather Thursday and most of Friday. That should lower the amount that actually sticks to some areas of the ground, but grassy areas, car tops, roof tops, etc. will still likely be covered in a few inches of snow by early Saturday.

To give you an idea of where the heaviest snow band is looking to set up with this storm system, I’ve added a photo below. Take this as what it is, a computer projection. Obviously, some of this will melt when it hits, so the amounts are skewed on the high side. However, it does show the amount that is expected to fall (not how much we’ll end up with when it’s all said and done). And even this is just a computer model’s take on the snow for the Friday night/Saturday timeframe. We’ll try to give a more concrete projection on Thursday once the storm has made the turn over the Rockies and we have a better handle on it.

The scale may be hard to read, so here is a rundown of what the color coded areas are:
Dark blue: 8-10″
Light gray: 6-8″
Green(s): 4-6″
Blue/yellow: 2-4″
Pinks: Under 2″
