Feeling the chill

Over the past couple of days, we’ve been talking about this very cold air mass moving into our area, but not only are we dealing with cold air, the breezy conditions mean we also have wind chills to discuss. What exactly is a wind chill and how is it calculated?
According to the American Meteorologist Society, the wind chill index is “a means of quantifying the threat of rapid cooling during breezy or windy conditions that may result in hypothermia in cold conditions.” Simply put, it’s what the temperature will actually feel like, once you factor in the wind speed.

You can figure out a general wind chill by following the temperature and wind on the chart above. If you want to plug your temperature and wind into a calculator to figure out the wind chill, you can do that here.
While there are several risks involved with the cold weather, you don’t have to stay trapped inside for the entire season! If you enjoy running or walking outside, here is a great site with tips on how to continue your outdoor workout routine, even when it’s cold!
