Wakarusa Township Fire Department gear stolen

Burglaries and thefts reported ¢ A 35-year-old Lawrence man reported Wakarusa Township Fire Department gear, including pants, boots, coat, helmet, hood, gloves and a carrying bag, were stolen March 21 from the 2500 block of West 31st Street. Welding leathers also were reported stolen. The total estimated loss is $2,600. ¢ Lawrence police on Monday recovered a stolen Ford Edge valued at $28,000. According to a police report, the vehicle was stolen from Avis Car Rental, 1216 E. 23rd St., between Feb. 21 and Monday. ¢ A Pizza Shoppe employee reported a Captive Air stainless steel hood system was stolen from the business at 1520 Wakarusa Drive on March 21. The hood system is valued at $1,500, according to a police report. ¢ Lawrence Animal Control reported a dog was tethered around a tree without water for more than four hours Tuesday.
