Joe Dineen tops ratings in 26-23 loss to Nicholls State

1 – Joe Dineen: Had 12 solo tackles, several in big spots, and four assists. Was flagged for a face-masking penalty early in Nicholls drive that resulted in the field goal that sent the game into overtime, one blemish on an otherwise impressive night.

2 – Stephon Robinson: Blocked a punt early in the fourth quarter and caught four passes for 43 yards. Is super quick.

3 – Daniel Wise: Had six solo tackles, one for a loss, and two assists.

4 – Gabriel Rui: The ever-reliable kicker nailed a career-high 54-yard 3-pointer in the second quarter and hit a 41-yarder in overtime.

5 – Kerr Johnson: He knows how to get open and catches what’s thrown his way. Caught three passes for 54 yards and a touchdown.

6 – Khalil Herbert: Rushed for 61 yards on 12 carries and broke free for a 23-yard gain.

7 – Dom Williams: On a play in which many backs would have been thrown for a loss, Williams shed a tackle in the backfield and gained 23 yards. He looked stronger and quicker than last season. Williams gained 35 yards on six carries.

8 – Kyle Thompson: Averaged 47 yards on eight punts with a long of 62 yards. Dropped three punts inside the 20, but had two touchbacks.

9 – Keith Loneker: He made his presence felt with seven solo tackles, one for a loss, and two assists.

10 – Bryce Torneden: Three tackles, four assists and one quarterback hurry. Steadily improves.
