Simien part of one big ‘Deal’

_Each week, KUSports.com will get you caught up on Jayhawks both former and current getting some ink from outside of the area._Trinidad & Tobago Express: ‘Deal’ winner coming for ball court ceremony_Deal or No Deal Winner, Arthur Joseph is finally coming home to Trinidad and Tobago. Joseph will visit his hometown of Fanny Village in Point Fortin on Wednesday for the official commissioning ceremony of the NBA-style, Miami Heat-themed basketball court which will also be named in his honour.__Joseph accepted a deal valued at US$ 70,700 during an episode of the popular NBC game show, Deal or No Deal, which aired on June 13. As part of the deal, 2006 NBA Champions, Miami Heat agreed to refurbish an existing basketball court in Trinidad and subsequently, the one at Fanny Village was chosen.__Also coming to Trinidad for the ceremony is six-foot nine-inch, Miami Heat Forward, Wayne Simien. Simien was drafted by the Heat in the first round of the 2005 NBA Draft and signed by the Heat on August 12, 2005.__Since then, he has seen action in 51 games (two starts) has averaged 3.3 points, 1.9 rebounds and 9.9 minutes while shooting 46.9 per cent from the floor and 85.4 per cent from the foul line.__Joseph’s local representative, Arthur Lewis, said that the NBA player is coming to interact with the people of Fanny Village and more so with the children of this community.__”Simien’s presence should serve to inspire the community as a whole,” he said, “and even more so, to inspire the children of this community to strive for excellence. As part of the official proceedings, he will also present special gifts to about 50 kids and of course, interact with them and try to answer their many questions and curiosities.”_Local Take: See, this is one thing which could get Wayne Simien a nice deal next summer after his third NBA season – he continues to prove he’s a community guy. Wish there were more like him in today’s NBA.Sports Network: Zagurski to have season-ending surgery_Philadelphia, PA (Sports Network) – Philadelphia Phillies left-handed pitcher Mike Zagurski will undergo season-ending surgery on his right hamstring, the club announced on Friday.__Zagurski was injured in his last appearance, August 18 at Pittsburgh. The burly reliever slipped when trying to field a ground ball to the left of the mound off the bat of Pittsburgh’s Ronny Paulino. He was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day._Local Take: It’s still incredible how fast he rose to the majors, being selected just two years ago after a good-not-great career at KU. Hopefully he has better luck with his health in 2007.The Chronicle-Telegram: Browns, QBs look better in win over Broncos_Oh, yeah, the Browns (2-1) walked away with a win Saturday night, 17-16. The victory was preserved when David McMillan and Chaun Thompson stopped running back Selvin Young on a 2-point conversion try with 2:56 left._Local Take: As McMillan’s play has bettered late in the preseason, it looks like he’ll get a third season with Cleveland to live up to his Draft Combine hype. He had another three tackles in Cleveland’s win Thursday in its preseason finale in Chicago.Chicago Sun-Times: Crash course: Hester knocking himself out_Also let go were wide receivers Timon Marshall and Clinton Solomon, guard Tyler McMeans, defensive tackle Justin Frick, safety Jay Staggs, kicker Nick Novak and punter Joel Stelly. Wide receiver Brandon Rideau (sprained right ankle) was waived/ injured, and the team is expected to try to reach an injury settlement.__With Rideau gone, Mike Hass may have played himself onto the final roster as a sixth receiver._Local Take: Well, you could kind of see this coming after Rideau hurt himself in the Bears’ second preseason game against Indianapolis on a freak accident during a Devin Hester kick return. It’s nice that he’ll get some money in an injury settlement, and who knows, maybe he’ll catch on with the Bears’ practice squad for the second straight year. It would have been interesting to see if he could have beat Hass out for that final receiver slot in the end. The two had comparable numbers through two preseason contests.
