NCAA tourney ratings down; KU-Davidson game an anomaly
If only the Jayhawks played in every NCAA tournament game…Mediaweek magazine is out with its latest analysis of NCAA tournament ratings, and it turns out this year’s slate of games has been a clunker. Apparently, people don’t want to watch higher seeds run over lower seeds.Who knew?According to Mediaweek, ratings are down an average of 7 percent with an average of 8 million people tuning in to each telecast. However Kansas University’s Elite Eight tilt with Davidson on Sunday – which went all the way down to the wire with Davidson nearly winning on a buzzer beater, perhaps you remember? – actually had higher ratings than the equivalent game last season.About 8.7 million people, a 19 percent increase over last year, tuned in to the KU game. Elite Eight games involving both UCLA and North Carolina were ratings clunkers, down 10 percent and 4 percent.
