Harvard survey finds KU professors highly satisfied with tenure process

For a university professor, getting tenure can be a frustrating and stressful process.At Kansas University, according to a new study from the Harvard-based Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education, most junior faculty feel highly satisifed that the tenure process is effective and reasonable.COACHE, the Harvard group, listed the four universities that scored highest in their study, as well as other universities if they were within .05 of the fourth university. KU was listed as “exemplary” in three categories: tenure practices overall, tenure reasonableness and policy effectiveness overall.Other categories in the study included tenure clarity, nature of work (overall), nature of work (teaching), nature of work (research), nature of work (support), work and family, compensation satisfaction, climate/collegiality and global satisfaction.No other Big 12 Conference school made the list, with the closest other universities on the list being the University of Minnesota and the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
