City seeks arts grant proposals

The deadline for Lawrence’s Community Arts Grants is next month.

The grants of up to $1,000 each are funded through the Lawrence Cultural Arts Commission’s budget from the city. The grants are designed to “help fund new or expanding arts programs, engage fresh audiences in arts activities and enhance our community in general.

A few of the recent winners have included:

• The first-ever Lawrence Busker Festival, held in 2008 (pictured above).
• An art therapy project at the Lawrence Community Shelter.
• A community art garden at Central Junior High School.
• Several theater performances.
• A holiday CD for the Lawrence Children’s Choir.
• The All-City Junior High Jazz Ensemble.

Application forms are available online or at City Hall. For more information, contact Diane Stoddard at 832-3413 or dstoddard@ci.lawrence.ks.us.
