Lawrence Boys & Girls Club member honored at Statehouse

A Lawrence teen was recognized at the Kansas Statehouse this week.

After winning Boys & Girls Club of Lawrence Youth of the Year competition, Jazmyne McNair went on to win the state competition in March. McNair was recognized on the floor of the House and the Senate on Monday, according to a news release from the club.

Local legislators Boog Highberger and Barbara Ballard presented McNair with a framed certificate.

“It was really cool, knowing that I was surrounded by people that are making an impact,” McNair said in the release. “They have the same type of intentions that I do, to make things better for the people that they serve.”

McNair will travel to Dallas to compete in the Boys & Girls Club Southwest Regional Youth of the Year competition on June 20. The winner of that event will advance to the National Youth of the Year competition.
