Lawrence organizations holding a variety of camps for spring break

All grade levels of Lawrence Public Schools will be closed next week for spring break, and several organizations around town are offering activities ranging from Legos to rock-n-roll to keep kids busy.

Middle and high school students also have no school this Friday, but school is in session that day for elementary students. Check out the options below for some activities to consider for the upcoming days off:

– From March 14-18, the LAC is hosting
a five-day camp called “Guerrilla
Arts,” with one section for first-
and second-graders and another for
third- through fifth-graders. The
camp runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. each
day and the cost is $220, and
financial aid is available. The
students will learn about guerrilla
art — which is temporary art that is
displayed in public places — and make
some of their own. Registration can
be done online or at the center, 940
New Hampshire St.

• From March 14-18, the LAC is hosting
a five-day camp called “Spring Youth Theatre
Rocks!” for middle and high school
students. The camp runs from 1 p.m. to
9 p.m. each day and the cost is $200,
and financial aid is available.
Students will get instruction in
vocals and acting ahead of
performing a rock musical on the LAC
main stage Friday evening.
Registration can be done online or at
the center, 940 New Hampshire St.
There is also a one-day version of
the camp, which runs from 9 a.m. to 9
p.m. March 18 and costs $48.

• From March 14-18, the Lawrence Parks
and Recreation Department will host
a Lego camp called “Mine, Craft, Build”
for kids ages five to six. The camp
runs from 9 a.m. to noon each day and
the cost is $160. Participants will
use Legos to build motorized and
walking vehicles and creatures based
on the game Minecraft. Registration
can be done online or at any
Lawrence Parks and Recreation
facility.

• From March 14-18, the Lawrence Parks
and Recreation Department and Theatre
Lawrence have come together to offer
a spring break theater camp for kids
ages 6 to 12. The camp runs from 9
a.m. to 4 p.m. each day and the cost
is $190. The students will learn
about theater before a performance at
the end of the week. Registration can
be done online or at any
Lawrence Parks and Recreation
facility.

• From March 14-18, the Lawrence Parks
and Recreation Department will host a
spring break camp for kids ages 5
to 12. The camp runs from 8:30 a.m.
to 4 p.m. each day and the cost is
$70. Participants will play games, do
arts and crafts and take field trips.
Registration can be done online
or at any Lawrence Parks and
Recreation facility.

– Student-led and parent-teacher
conferences at Liberty Memorial
Middle School will be Wednesday and
Thursday. Student-led conferences
will be from 4:15 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday and 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Drop-in parent-teacher
conferences will be from 6 to 7:30
p.m. Wednesday and from 4:15 p.m.
to 6 p.m. Thursday.

– The second and final day of
parent-teacher conferences at South
Middle School will be from 4:15
p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

– Parent-teacher conferences at West
Middle School will be from 4:45
p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and
Thursday.

– The second and final day of
parent-teacher conferences at Free
State High School will be from 5
p.m. to 8:15 p.m.

– The second and final day of
parent-teacher conferences at
Lawrence High School will be from 5 p.m. to 8:15 p.m.
