Teen girl reportedly breaks into multiple cars in Lawrence, comes away with $7

A teen girl allegedly broke into multiple vehicles within the span of about half an hour, starting around 12:30 a.m. Friday.

The haul? About $7 — $2 in change from one vehicle, and $5 from another.

From 12:27 a.m. until 1:05 a.m. Friday, Lawrence police received several calls regarding thefts from vehicles in the 2200 block of Breckenridge Drive, as well as the same block of nearby Vail Way and Melholland Road. The neighborhood is just north of Clinton Parkway, between Lawrence Avenue and Kasold Drive.

Officer Shawn Gross, of the Lawrence Police Department, said Friday that four cars were confirmed to have been burglarized. It was also confirmed that nothing was taken from one of the cars. There may have been other vehicles hit that had not yet been reported, Gross said.

Multiple people identified the same suspect, whom police arrested on suspicion of the car burglaries, Gross said.

He said police submitted an affidavit to the Douglas County district attorney’s office to consider charges against the girl in at least one of the alleged car burglaries.
