Insurance advice offered to grandparents

Grandparents in Kansas who are raising their grandchildren have better access to information they need when it comes to insurance issues.Earlier this month Kansas Insurance Commissioner Sandy Praeger announced expanded components of the Insure U consumer education program. You can find information about raising grandchildren and helping single parents better understand needs and special considerations in auto, home, health and life insurance at www.InsureUonline.org..Grandparents could find, while obtaining custody of grandchildren, that many of the benefits and financial assistance they might seek require proof of a legal relationship. As for single parents, they may be too busy working and dealing with home life issues to find out more about insurance issues. In her monthly column, Praeger, a Lawrence resident, gave examples of some of the information that can be found on the Insure U Web site for grandparents and single parents.Praeger noted that grandparents will probably assume additional chauffeuring responsibilities when caring for their grandchildren and their grandchildren’s friends. They should consider increasing their liability insurance. They might also want to purchase an umbrella insurance policy to have coverage in case of an accident on their property involving grandchildren and their friends.More information about this and other insurance related-subjects can be found at www.ksinsurance.org, where there also is a link to the [Insure U Web site.][1]
