Iowa State sweep ends KU volleyball’s 9-match winning streak

The Kansas volleyball team’s nine-match winning streak came to an end Saturday afternoon, when the Jayhawks were swept by Iowa State at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena.

ISU topped KU 25-20 in all three sets on Saturday, dropping the Jayhawks to 11-4 on the season and 3-1 in Big 12 play. It marked the fourth consecutive Big 12 Conference match that Kansas had lost first set.

KU handed Iowa State its first Big 12 loss of the season on Friday in four sets.

The Jayhawks were out-hit by the Cyclones (11-4, 3-1), .368-.235 on Saturday, and KU committed more than twice as many hitting errors (15-7) on attacks at the net.

Freshman Caroline Bien (11) and super-senior Jenny Mosser (10) led the Jayhawks in kills for the second day in a row, but Bien also committed eight of KU’s 15 errors in 25 total attacks. Mosser committed just one error in 38 attacks and also delivered a team-high 11 digs in the loss.

Next up, KU will welcome perennial power Texas to town for a two-match trip next weekend. The Jayhawks and Longhorns will begin play at 4 p.m. Friday and the two will square off at 3 p.m. next Saturday.
