KU volleyball drops 5-set rivalry rematch with K-State

It took all five sets Friday night, but the Kansas State volleyball team avenged the previous day’s Sunflower Showdown loss at rival Kansas.

The No. 11 Wildcats prevailed (22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 17-25, 15-10) at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena after building a quick 6-0 advantage in the decisive fifth set.

KU took the first set of the match but couldn’t keep the momentum alive.

Graduate transfer Jenny Mosser put away 21 kills for the Jayhawks in the rematch. Freshman setter Elise McGhie passed out 47 assists. Junior middle blocker Rachel Langs provided six blocks.

The Jayhawks, who put an end to a seven-game slide on Thursday, with a four-set victory over K-State, dropped to 2-8.

Next up for KU is a road trip to play Iowa State on Nov. 13 and 14.
