No. 1 Texas sweeps No. 9 Kansas in Big 12 volleyball
Top-ranked Texas swept No. 9 Kansas in three sets, 25-22, 25-19 and 25-22, on Thursday night at the Frank Erwin Center in Austin.
The victory moved the Longhorns to 3-0 on the season, while KU fell to 1-2. Texas now has won 17 consecutive home matches against Kansas, moving to 24-1 all-time against KU in its home venue.
The Jayhawks competed from start to finish and enjoyed mini-runs throughout all three sets. But the Longhorns’ ability to build early leads kept KU from mounting any real threat. UT also out-hit KU .265 to .160, recording 14 more kills than the visitors.
UCLA transfer Jenny Mosser led the Jayhawks with 16 kills. She was the only KU player to reach double digits in kills. Setter Sarah Nielsen led the Jayhawks in both assists (15) and digs (11).
The two teams will return to the court on Friday for a 7 p.m. rematch on The Longhorn Network.
