Kansas volleyball drops rematch with Iowa State in 4 sets

After winning their first road match of the season on Friday night, the Kansas volleyball team took the first set from Iowa State on Saturday but then dropped three straight to fall, 25-20, 23-25, 16-25, 14-25 in Ames, Iowa.

The result of the match moved both teams to 3-9 on the season.

“Both teams responded well at the start of the match and the first two sets were good volleyball,” KU coach Ray Bechard said after the match. “Iowa State gained momentum in the third set and didn’t let go. We need to do a better job of responding to that.”

Junior middle blocker Rachel Langs logged 10 kills for the third consecutive match, while senior outside hitter Jenny Mosser finished with a season-high 17 digs for Kansas.

Junior libero Lacey Angello also added 12 digs for KU, finishing with double-digit digs for the third straight match.

“Lacey has been great and a great boost with her serve-receive and her back court defense,” Bechard said. “That has been a bright spot.”

The Jayhawks will return to Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena next weekend for their final two home matches of the 2020 season, Thursday and Friday against Texas Tech.

Kansas will close the pandemic-shortened season two weeks later, Dec. 3-4 at TCU.
