KU volleyball tops Wichita State in exhibition play

The Kansas volleyball team earned a 3-2 victory over Wichita State inside Wichita’s Koch Arena in the Jayhawks’ lone exhibition match of the 2019 season Saturday.

After falling behind two sets to one, the Jayhawks rebounded by outscoring the Shockers 40-21 in the final two sets to take the 3-2 victory.

The team was led by sophomore Rachel Langs, who had a team-high 10 kills on the afternoon to go along with her 1.5 blocks. Senior Zoe Hill finished with nine kills and tied for the team lead in blocks with two.

Next up for the Jayhawks is the regular season opener against UMKC on Aug. 30 at Swinney Recreation Center in Kansas City, Mo. That match is slated to begin at 7 p.m.

KU’s home opener, in its newly remodeled home arena, is set for Sept. 12 against Morehead State at Horejsi Family Volleyball Arena. KU will welcome Morehead State, Syracuse and Arizona to town that weekend for the Kansas Invitational.

The Jayhawks will play four more road matches before then: Sept. 3 at Omaha, Sept. 6 vs. Albany, Sept. 7 vs. South Carolina and Sept. 8 vs. Central Florida.

Those last three matches will take place in Orlando at the UCF Challenge.
