The Kansas women’s golf team claimed its second victory of the fall on Tuesday when it shot a 47-under 817, a program record, through three rounds in The Clash at Boulder Creek in Boulder City, Nevada.
“This was a total team effort, and everyone contributed this week with low scores,” KU coach Lindsay Kuhle said in a press release. “I’m really proud of their composure, confidence and competitiveness this week.”
Junior Ebba Nordstedt earned an individual first-place finish as well, the second of her career, by going 16-under, clearing runner-up Leia Chung of Boise State by four strokes.
“It’s awesome to see her play with great confidence and ball striking on point this week,” Kuhle said in the release.
Senior Lyla Louderbaugh and sophomore Kinslea Jones tied for fourth at 10-under. It was a memorable event for the Jayhawks, who with a performance on Monday that included a 21-under first round and 11-under second round set additional 18- and 32-hole school records.
KU, the only ranked team in the field, ended up eight strokes ahead of Boise State when all was said and done. The rest of the standings, in order, included Houston (19-under), Utah Tech (14-under), Cal Baptist (13-under), UTEP (6-under), New Mexico State (4-over), Wofford (5-over), San Francisco (6-over), Tarleton State (7-over), North Dakota State (9-over), Northern Arizona (12-over), Utah Valley (13-over), Southern Utah (15-over), Weber State (22-over), South Dakota State (23-over), Fresno State (25-over), Cal State Bakersfield (30-over) and Drake (35-over).
Besides Nordstedt, Louderbaugh and Jones, KU was represented by freshman Hannah Hall, who tied for 13th at 5-under, and fifth-year Anna Wallin, who finished in a tie for 21st at 2-under to round out the Jayhawks’ usual top five.
“I am really proud of our freshman who came back with a blistering 65 and really helped the team get the victory,” Kuhle said of Hall.
Sophomore Marieke Ebens competed as an individual and tied for 50th at 4-over.
With Boulder Creek in the rearview mirror, KU has now concluded its fall schedule. The Jayhawks will be back in action on Feb. 1 at the UCF Challenge in Orlando, Florida.
