Kansas' Lauren Clark competes in the Marilynn Smith Sunflower Invitational on Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, in Lawrence.
Kansas senior Lauren Clark had already been named the Big 12 Conference’s golfer of the month after winning the PDI Intercollegiate in Orlando, Florida, and the Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational in Peoria, Arizona, over the course of February.
She did one better on Tuesday, finishing off her third straight individual victory by carding a 6-under 66 to finish 12-under at the Yale Invitational West in La Quinta, California.
In doing so, she became just the third Jayhawk ever to win at least three tournaments in a single season.
Clark, an Orlando native who entered the event at No. 67 nationally in the Scoreboard rankings, birdied seven holes on Tuesday, survived a 16th-hole bogey and slipped past North Carolina’s Ing Iadpluem by one stroke after Iadpluem had been 10 strokes under par through two days but shot just 1-under on Tuesday.
However, UNC, currently ranked No. 15, beat out No. 23 KU by a total of 11 strokes for the team title. UNC had three of the top five individual performers at the PGA West Greg Norman Course.
Still, the Jayhawks came in second in the 12-team field, which featured five additional ranked teams besides UNC and KU. Junior Amy DeKock finished 10th at 3-under through three rounds, while junior Lily Hirst and freshman Ebba Nordstedt tied for 16th at 1-under.
The Jayhawks will look to continue their momentum at the PING/ASU Invitational at Papago Golf Club in Phoenix beginning March 28.
