Kansas track and field and cross-country coach Stanley Redwine has signed a four-year extension, athletic director Travis Goff announced on Friday morning.
“Stanley is synonymous with excellence in the sport of track and field, both collegiately and on the global stage,” Goff said in a press release. “We are thrilled to extend his leadership of our proud program, while (he is) continuing to represent our country for the biggest moments in the sport.”
With retirement of volleyball coach Ray Bechard last month, Redwine is now the longest-tenured head coach on KU’s campus, and the extension puts him under contract through the conclusion of the 2029 season. Redwine has helmed his pair of programs since the spring of 2000 and in that time has earned five Big 12 coach of the year honors; in 2013, the KU women’s track and field team earned a national title under Redwine’s guidance. He also recently served as the United States men’s coach at the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.
“I’m grateful that Travis Goff has given me the opportunity to continue serving as the head cross country and track and field coach here at Kansas,” Redwine said in the release. “The University of Kansas and the community of Lawrence have been great to me and my family.”
He added that the extension was also “a reflection of our coaches, staff and student-athletes” and their consistent efforts to grow the track and cross-country programs.
Many of those student-athletes excelled during the 2024 track campaign, as KU earned a slew of All-American honors between its indoor and outdoor seasons, including multiple distinctions for each of distance runner Chandler Gibbens, high jumper Devin Loudermilk and pole vaulters Mason Meinershagen and Clayton Simms.
All but Gibbens remain on the roster for the currently ongoing 2025 season, which is currently in its indoor phase, as KU will be in action next at the Dr. Rick McGuire Invitational at Missouri beginning Jan. 31.
The new deal for Redwine follows extensions for Lindsay Kuhle (women’s golf) and Brandon Schneider (women’s basketball) over the summer. For Redwine himself, it was the first known extension since July 2022.
