Kansas senior golfer Lauren Clark carded the lowest 54-hole score in program history with a 17-under 199, and she led the Jayhawks to yet another team victory as they took the crown in the Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational on Monday.
It was Clark’s second consecutive individual title after she won the PDI Intercollegiate in Orlando three weeks earlier — the only event in KU’s last six in which it has not claimed the team championship.
Clark is just the third Jayhawk to win back-to-back individual titles.
“We played great, consistent golf,” Kuhle said in a press release. “Lauren’s five under for her to win two tournaments in a row is remarkable. She’s probably one of the best college golfers in the country right now with the way she’s playing, but she really helped us win this event.”
As a team, the Jayhawks finished at 39-under, ahead of second-place UNLV and third-place Kansas State. Individually, Clark was closely followed by teammates Amy DeKock (11-under), Lily Hirst (5-under), Ebba Nordstedt (5-under) and Johanna Ebner (2-under), with Lyla Louderbaugh shooting 4-under while competing unattached.
“It’s really cool to have six players finish under par, it speaks to this team’s depth,” Kuhle said. “This team is very focused, very driven and really serious about our vision this year of making the national championship and competing for championships.”
The full list of KU’s team titles this year now includes the Golfweek Red Sky Classic in Colorado, Marilynn Smith Invitational in Lawrence, White Sands Bahamas Fall Invitational, Match in the Desert in Arizona and the Wisconsin Westbrook Invitational.
Next up for the Jayhawks is the Yale Invitational West, held in La Quinta, California, beginning March 10.
