Allen Fieldhouse will play host to ESPN’s “College GameDay” for Kansas’ matchup against BYU next Saturday, Jan. 31.
The hourlong pregame show with Rece Davis, Jay Bilas, Jay Williams, Andraya Carter and Seth Greenberg begins at 10 a.m. Tipoff for the game is set for 3:30 p.m.
The KU-BYU game, besides the fact that it will feature two ranked teams (No. 19 and No. 13 this week, respectively), will receive plenty of scrutiny and national attention because it includes two players in Darryn Peterson and AJ Dybantsa who are the prime candidates to become the No. 1 pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. Peterson, of course, will need to return from the ankle injury that kept him out of Saturday’s Sunflower Showdown at Kansas State.
The Jayhawks lead the all-time series with BYU 4-3, but they will have to reverse the trend of their first couple matchups against the Cougars since BYU entered the Big 12 Conference. KU suffered a shocking 76-68 home loss to Mark Pope’s bunch on Feb. 27, 2024, then got blown out 91-57 at the Marriott Center last Feb. 18 in Kevin Young’s first season at the helm in one of the worst losses by margin in school history.
KU has experienced plenty of success over the years on “GameDay,” with a 15-8 overall record, including 10-2 in games played at Allen Fieldhouse. The two most recent “GameDay” matchups were home games against Baylor during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons, both of which the Jayhawks won.
KU will be hosting the second on-location “College GameDay” of the season, both centered on games from the Big 12; the crew was in Lubbock, Texas, on Saturday for No. 12 Texas Tech’s game against No. 6 Houston.
This is the lone matchup between KU and BYU this season. Besides Dybantsa, the Cougars’ other top players include guards Richie Saunders, a senior, and Robert Wright III, a sophomore who transferred from Baylor.
