Four-star small forward Trent Perry, from Link Academy in Branson, Missouri, announced his commitment to Kansas’ class of 2026 on Wednesday afternoon.

Perry revealed his decision to choose the Jayhawks over Maryland and TCU as part of a CBS Sports livestream. He received his scholarship offer from KU in August and visited in mid-September. He had also briefly considered Vanderbilt, which along with KU offered him when he had already visited the Terrapins and Frogs.

Perry comes in at No. 105 in the nation in the 247Sports Composite rankings and is listed at 6-foot-5 and 190 pounds. Originally from Frisco, Texas, where he attended Lone Star High School and averaged 13.1 points, 5.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 3.0 steals per game, Perry made the move to Link Academy for his junior season, and according to MaxPreps played in 20 games with an average of 3.7 points.

Adam Finkelstein, 247Sports’ director of scouting, wrote in a July report that Perry “has all the makings of an elite role player.”

“He’s broadly built, has a naturally strong frame, big hands, high shoulders, and extremely long arms with a 7-foot-1 wingspan,” Finkelstein wrote. “While he’s a little undersized for a true wing, he plays bigger than his actual size and has no problem bodying up with bigger players because of his toughness and physicality.”

One key area for improvement, according to Finkelstein, is Perry’s shooting.

Perry is KU’s second commitment in the recruiting class, after composite five-star point guard Taylen Kinney announced his own pledge to the Jayhawks on Sunday. They could get a third in the span of a week if center Davion Adkins, of Prolific Prep, chooses KU over Houston and Rutgers when he makes his own announcement this coming Sunday.

Kinney and Perry will join a 2026-27 roster that could potentially have a variety of returning players, as the 2025-26 KU squad includes nine underclassmen compared to its four senior transfers.
