Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self on Thursday morning officially announced the signings of Luke Barnett, a four-star guard from Laguna Niguel, California, and Davion Adkins, a four-star forward from Arlington, Texas.

Barnett, who is 6-foot-3, 170 pounds and attends Mater Dei High School, is known primarily for his shooting acumen, to the point that Self called him the best shooter KU has recruited since Gradey Dick, a former one-and-done wing in 2023 who now plays for the Toronto Raptors.

“He has great range,” Self added in a press release. “He’s got good size and is a powerful, tough athlete. Luke’s an outstanding shooter, much like Gradey was when we brought him in.”

Barnett averaged 21.0 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.9 assists and 1.4 steals last season at Mater Dei. He broke a 40-year-old single-game scoring record when he hit 12 3s and scored 55 points against San Diego’s Hoover High School on Dec. 28.

He committed to KU on Oct. 24, as the most recent addition to the 2026 class, on a CBS Sports livestream after visiting for Late Night in the Phog, citing how impressed he was with the program’s culture as a primary reason for his decision. His other finalists were Miami and UNLV.

Adkins is a 6-foot-9 left-handed forward with a 7-foot-2 wingspan who chose KU over Houston and Rutgers. He said in announcing his decision on ESPN2 during a Border League basketball game on Oct. 5 that he had been impressed by his visit to Lawrence, and he referred to Self as a “truth teller.”

“Davion is a prototypical power forward that can also be big enough to play the pivot,” Self said. “We’re excited about him because he’s versatile. He’s an athlete. He can play above the rim and has shown great improvement over the last year. We feel Davion’s ceiling is very high.”

According to KU’s press release, Adkins averaged 11.0 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 blocks at the NBPA Top 100 camp over the summer. While originally from Texas and recently having played at Oak Cliff Faith Family Academy in Dallas, he will spend his senior season at Prolific Prep, a school that was previously home to current Jayhawks Darryn Peterson and Tre White. Prolific Prep has made a move of its own to Fort Lauderdale, Florida.

Both Barnett and Adkins will join the Jayhawks for the 2026-27 season. They become the third and fourth official signees out of KU’s 2026 group, with guard Taylen Kinney and wing Trent Perry already inked on Wednesday. Wing Javon Bardwell is also a candidate to reclassify up from the 2027 class eventually.
