Former Kansas wing Rylan Griffen is transferring to Texas A&M, according to multiple reports on Friday afternoon.

Griffen becomes the second player to leave the Jayhawks for former Samford coach Bucky McMillan’s new-look Aggies, after forward Zach Clemence did the same earlier in the offseason. On3 was first to report the news of Griffen’s move.

He is the fourth former KU player to find a new home this offseason overall, as David Coit is also headed to Maryland and AJ Storr to Ole Miss; Rakease Passmore remains in the transfer portal.

Griffen moves back to the SEC after playing his first two seasons at Alabama, where he was a starter on the Crimson Tide’s 2024 Final Four team, averaging 11.2 points per game while shooting 39.2% from beyond the arc. He reportedly considered a return to Alabama during this latest transfer cycle.

Griffen did not match those numbers during his lone year at KU, even as he became a regular member of the Jayhawks’ starting five late in the 2024-25 season. He scored just 6.3 points per game and, as a result of a late-season cold spell, saw his field goal percentages drop to 37.2% overall and 33.6% from deep. He only reached double-figure scoring in eight of his 33 appearances.

The Dallas native was part of a flurry of KU players to enter the portal on or around March 31. He has one year of eligibility remaining.

KU, meanwhile, still has several open roster spots left to fill after acquiring transfers Jayden Dawson (Loyola-Chicago), Tre White (Illinois) and Melvin Council Jr. (St. Bonaventure) and convincing center Flory Bidunga to withdraw from the transfer portal following a brief stint.

Along with Passmore, Zeke Mayo is technically in the portal as well but does not currently have another year of eligibility at his disposal.
