Kansas senior guard David Coit is transferring, his agent Rashaad Ubah told the Journal-World on Monday morning.

Coit has a fifth year of eligibility at this disposal because of the NCAA’s blanket waiver for former junior-college players whose careers would have ended following the 2024-25 season.

He previously said in February that he would be eager to return to KU and make use of that year in Lawrence, both for additional on-court experience and to help get his master’s degree; instead he will do so elsewhere as KU’s fourth player to enter the transfer portal.

The native of Columbus, New Jersey, who had previously played at Atlantic Cape Community College and Northern Illinois, was a late addition to KU’s 2024-25 roster after he needed a waiver to be able to become eligible for his fourth season of college basketball. He earned the trust of the Jayhawks’ coaching staff and was well regarded as an off-court leader, and actually opened the year in KU’s starting lineup for a couple games.

On the season, Coit averaged 5.1 points, mostly on 3-point shots, as he made 38.7% of his attempts from beyond the arc. Coit picked up speed following a midseason slump, scoring a season-high 15 points on five 3s against Oklahoma State on Feb. 22, and adding 14 more as KU nearly pulled off a road upset of Houston three games later. He was also asked to run the point and handle the ball more as the season went on with fellow guard Shakeel Moore battling foot soreness.
