KU men’s basketball offers younger brother of former signee

University of Kansas basketball recruiting
The Kansas men’s basketball coaching staff is apparently trying to make further inroads in a family with which it is already quite well acquainted.
Maximo Adams, a 6-foot-6 four-star small forward in the class of 2026 who plays for Sierra Canyon in Chatsworth, California, announced on Saturday that he had received a scholarship offer from KU assistant coach Kurtis Townsend.
Adams was in the midst of a strong showing at the Section 7 interscholastic basketball tournament in Mesa, Arizona, where Sierra Canyon won the Carolyn and Todd Delano Bracket. Adams posted 42 points and 25 rebounds in the Trailblazers’ victory over Higley on Friday, and after Sierra Canyon defeated De La Salle (of Concord, California) and Long Beach Poly on Saturday, he posted about the offer.
Adams is the younger brother of Marcus Adams Jr., a former KU signee also recruited by Townsend.
Marcus was originally in the class of 2024 when he committed to the Jayhawks over Syracuse and UCLA in March 2023, but reclassified up a year and enrolled that summer. He was on campus for about a month before leaving for Gonzaga, to which he was also signed for a month before moving to BYU.
During Marcus’ lone year at BYU, he played in one game for the Cougars due to injury. After his father and grandmother died unexpectedly over the course of the spring, he transferred close to home, to CSUN, telling KSL.com at the time he felt he needed to play the role of the man of the house for his younger brother.
Playing for the Matadors during the 2024-25 season, Marcus averaged 16.1 points and 4.9 rebounds and was a second-team All-Big West Selection; he is now playing at Arizona State.
Maximo, according to a 247Sports article from June 9, had been primarily hearing from Oregon, SMU and USC in his own recruitment, with ASU also in the mix as well as Georgetown. Saturday was not in fact the first time he has reported an offer from KU, as he also posted about receiving one way back in February of 2023, shortly before Marcus’ own commitment to the Jayhawks.
Prior to transferring to Sierra Canyon, Maximo had played high school basketball at Narbonne High School in Harbor City, California, where Marcus went, and at Serra High School in nearby Gardena.
KU is still looking for its first commitment in the 2026 recruiting class, although it’s early. The Jayhawks have of late had No. 1 overall player Tyran Stokes, a small forward, on campus for a visit, as well as rising shooting guard Kohl Rosario, who is widely viewed as a candidate to reclassify to 2025. Another recent offer in the 2026 class was center Ethan Taylor, a 7-footer and Kansas native who will play his senior season at Link Academy.
