Kansas and Oklahoma State play during the second half of an NCAA college basketball game at Allen Fieldhouse, Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, in Lawrence. Kansas won 96-64.
Kansas men’s and women’s basketball both learned their conference opponents and venues for the second year of the 16-team iteration of the Big 12 on Thursday.
On the men’s side this season, each team in the Big 12 will play 18 conference games: home-and-home series against three opponents, six more opponents at home only and six more on the road only. Last season, men’s basketball teams in the Big 12 played 20 conference games, and this adjustment brings the schedule back to the number of conference games that the Big 12 had in place from 2012 through 2024.
The exact scheduling details for the contests likely won’t be available until September, but the Jayhawks should begin their conference play after the winter break, in the end of December or beginning of January. Conference play last season started on Dec. 31.
For now, KU men’s basketball knows that it will play home-and-home series against Arizona, Iowa State and rival Kansas State. It will also host Baylor, BYU, Cincinnati, Houston, TCU and Utah and will face Arizona State, UCF, Colorado, Oklahoma State, Texas Tech and West Virginia on the road.
There are two programs on the slate this year that KU hasn’t played on the road since they joined the new-look Big 12: Arizona and Arizona State. Kansas did face both programs on the road years ago — it last traveled to Tempe to face ASU in 2018, and its last visit to Tucson to take on the Wildcats was in 2008.
Once again, Kansas will also be traveling to Colorado to take on the Buffaloes and former Jayhawks Tad Doyle and Danny Manning, who are on CU’s coaching staff.
As for the home games, the Utes will make their way to Allen Fieldhouse for the first time in program history. In the programs’ matchup last season, Kansas traveled to the Jon M. Huntsman Center in February and lost 74-67.

Unlike on the men’s side, the women’s league schedule remained at a standard 18 games last season with the expansion of the Big 12 and will follow the same format for the 2025-2026 season. Even though they don’t have a finalized nonconference schedule like the KU men have at the moment, the Jayhawks should start league play around the same time as they did last year, since the number of games remains the same. Last season’s league slate began on Dec. 21.
KU will play home-and-home series against Kansas State, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech. It will also host BYU, Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Utah and West Virginia, and it will be on the road at Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Iowa State, TCU and UCF.
This will also be the Kansas women’s first trips to Tucson and Tempe since Arizona and Arizona State joined the Big 12. The last time they faced the Wildcats in Tucson was in December 2022, when the Jayhawks won 77-50. It’s been much longer since Kansas last went to Tempe; the two teams last faced off in December 2001 at what was then Wells Fargo Arena, and the Jayhawks lost 73-52.
They’ll have the chance to take the lead in both all-time series, as the Jayhawks sit at 2-2 against the Sun Devils and 4-4 against the Wildcats.
Like on the men’s side, it’ll also be the Utah women’s first time in Allen Fieldhouse; the only other contest between the two teams was last season in Kansas’ 79-61 loss to the Utes in Salt Lake City.
While a full nonconference schedule hasn’t been finalized yet, head coach Brandon Schneider previously confirmed that the Jayhawks will play Missouri at the T-Mobile Center on Nov. 15. They’ll also host Minnesota and travel to Northwestern as part of a home-and-home series with both schools and play in a Thanksgiving tournament in Fort Myers, Florida. Schneider also said Kansas will host Haskell Indian Nations University, an NAIA team, on Dec. 17 for the schools’ first meeting since 1974. KU won that game, 62-26.
