Kansas men’s basketball coach Bill Self has been released from the hospital, KU Athletics announced on Saturday.

“I want to thank all the amazing doctors and nurses at LMH Health for the excellent care I received during my stay there,” Self said in a statement. “I feel strong and am excited to be home. Our team has had a productive summer and look forward to our batteries being recharged and prepping for this upcoming season.”

Self had been transported to Lawrence Memorial Hospital on Thursday and had a pair of stents inserted after he “felt unwell and experienced some concerning symptoms,” according to KU’s announcement from Thursday evening.

He previously had two stents placed in March 2023 after experiencing chest tightness and balance issues; the health issues that spring prevented him from coaching KU in the Big 12 and NCAA tournaments.

Self has also mentioned, in discussing his health in various interviews since, that he underwent an aortic valve replacement in the fall of 2022, as well as coached with a peripherally inserted central catheter, or PICC line, during a recent season of competition.

KU’s longtime and all-time winningest head coach will begin his 23rd season at the helm in the fall. The Jayhawks recently completed their final week of summer workouts.
