Kansas reserve defensive end Caleb Redd plans to enter the transfer portal, On3 reported on Tuesday afternoon.

Redd will leave Lawrence after just one season with the Jayhawks. He was one of a quartet of defensive ends KU added in the 2025 transfer cycle, but unlike the other three — Alex Bray, Justice Finkley and Leroy Harris III — he did not immediately earn playing time.

Instead, during his redshirt freshman season with the Jayhawks, Redd played sparingly in three games, mainly on special teams, after playing 12 snaps on defense with Kentucky the prior year, according to Pro Football Focus. Redd recorded his first career tackle in the Jayhawks’ game against Texas Tech on Oct. 11.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pound end, who had played more as a 3-4 outside linebacker with the Wildcats, had been a three-star recruit out of De Smet Jesuit High School in St. Louis. He will have three years left to play.

Despite losing a developmental player in Redd, KU appears fairly well situated at defensive end next season with Bray coming back on the strong side and Harris and Brinkley returning after promising campaigns on the weak side. Dylan Brooks is a bit of a question mark after missing two straight years due to injury, and the Jayhawks also have young players in redshirts Adrian Holley and Garrett Martin and signees Hunter Higgins and Draeden Punt.

The Jayhawks’ total number of scholarship players set to transfer out is now climbing into the teens with more than a week remaining before the portal opens on Jan. 2. KU has one transfer signed for 2026 from the Division II ranks in defensive tackle Jibriel Conde.
