Kansas offensive lineman Greydon Grimes will transfer, his agent Pat Curran confirmed to the Journal-World on Tuesday afternoon.

Grimes, who stands 6-foot-6 and weighs 285 pounds, spent two years at KU. He had flipped from Baylor when his father Jeff Grimes came to Lawrence at the end of 2023 to serve as the Jayhawks’ offensive coordinator.

Greydon Grimes remained at KU when his father left for Wisconsin after one season in the coordinator role, but now he’ll move on to the transfer portal when it opens on Jan. 2.

Grimes played tight end and defensive end at China Spring High School and came to KU as a defensive lineman, but he switched to offensive tackle. He received the only four snaps of his career with the Jayhawks, according to Pro Football Focus, at right tackle in a blowout win over Wagner on Aug. 29.

At KU in 2025, Grimes was a part of a massive class of second-year offensive linemen that also included transfers like DeAndre Harper, Tyler Mercer and Jack Tanner, as well as high school recruits like David Abajian, Kene Anene and Carter Lavrusky. Grimes’ departure removes one potential contender for playing time down the road from that group, and he becomes the first offensive lineman to transfer away from KU this offseason.

The Jayhawks do have plenty of returning experience on the line, especially on its left side with starters Calvin Clements and Amir Herring. Mercer could slot in as the new center, and Tavake Tuikolovatu will be a contender at right guard after earning rotational snaps as a redshirt sophomore. Right tackle becomes the most significant question mark in the wake of Enrique Cruz Jr.’s graduation.
